Nuria Parrizas-Diaz v Magdalena Frech Head to Head

The pair have played each other once before, at the Poland Open last year on clay, Parrizas=Diaz winning in three sets.

No Grass Court Adaptation for Parrizas-Diaz

After years of plugging away on the junior tours without sponsorship and a career blighted by injury, Parrizas Diaz found success at the ITF level, particularly in clay and hard courts, and broke into the top 100 belatedly.

She made her Grand Slam debut at the age of 30 at the US Open last year, and went on to reach the third round in Melbourne this January.

Now ranked high enough to qualify automatically, she will make her main draw debut at Wimbledon in a few weeks’ time; her only previous visit last year saw the Spaniard knocked out in the third round of qualifying.

She comes to Birmingham fresh from playing a Challenger tournament in clay in Spain, where she reached the semi-finals, and has had no adaptation to the grass court surface.

Polish Number Three Frech

By contrast, Frech has already played in one grass court tournament this season, although that did not go particularly well for the Polish number three player.

She was beaten in three sets in the first round of Nottingham by the naturalised British qualifier Yuriko Lily Miyazaki.

Her Wimbledon record is no better than her opponent’s though – she has failed to qualify in her three previous attempts.

Like Parrizas-Diaz her biggest successes have come on the ITF tour, with her last title coming in the Czech Republic last September, although that was on clay.

Parrizas-Diaz v Frech Prediction and Tip

With neither won known as a grass court player, this is unlikely to be a high quality match. Parrizas-Diaz is the higher ranked player, but, having come from playing on clay in Spain, she arrives in Birmingham with little chance to practice. Frech has, at least, played one grass court match, and that may make her the slight favourite.
