Shelby Rogers had a good start to her grass court season, reaching the semifinals in ‘s-Hertogenbosch. But the American lost in the first round to Sorana Cirstea at the Birmingham Classic this week. Ranked No. 39th in the world, Rogers has reached the third round of Wimbledon on two occasions. One of those was last year when she beat Maria Sakakri in the second round.
A run to the semifinals at the Rosmalen Open earlier this month was Rogers’ best ever showing at a grass court event. She knocked out Vitalia Diatchenko, Elena Rybakina and Kirsten Flipkens before falling to Aryna Sabalenka.
Overall, Rogers has an 11-12 tour level record this season. The 29-year-old two-time Grand Slam quarterfinalist has been inconsistent at times but will be looking for a steady showing in Eastbourne.

Bouzkova Returns to Action
Marie Bouzkova will be playing her first tournament since her withdrawal before the start of her second round match at the French Open. The Czech payer, who had won her opening round match at Roland Garros for the first time in her career, pulled out of the tournament after testing positive for COVID-19.
This will be her first tournament on grass, a surface on which she hasn’t played much before, but has a 3-4 main draw record at the tour level. Her best so far was a quarterfinal finish in Birmingham last year.
Bouzkova, who reached her third career final in Guadalajara this year, is yet to win a WTA title.
She has an overall record of 22-8, including qualifiers this year. Can she make a solid start in Eastbourne?
