Roberto Bautista Agut v Taro Daniel Head to Head

They played once before and it happened in 2018. Bautista Agut won 7-5 6-1 on clay.

Solid Quarterfinal in Halle for Bautista

Roberto Bautista Agut returned to the courts in Halle and he had a fairly solid debut on the grass with a quarterfinal. He was beaten by finalist Daniil Medvedev but it was a fairly competitive match with plenty of chances for the Spaniard.

Before that match, he took down Tallon Griekspoor in three sets and Marton Fucsovics retired in round one. The good play on grass surprises no one because Bautista was always pretty goon on grass for a Spaniard. He’s 45-24 all-time on the surface with a Wimbledon semifinal in 2019.

This year has been pretty good for him overall with a 19-8 record. He did not play that much but he was able to lift a trophy and generally play good tennis. Bautista did not play since Madrid because of an injury so he missed the French Open.

He looked pretty sharp in Halle and he will certainly look even better in Mallorca. If he can find some decent form he might be a very tricky opponent at Wimbledon. The draw here gave him a good player in the opening stages but also one he should beat quite easily.

Rare Wins for Taro on Grass

Daniel Taro plays his best tennis on grass yet in a recent season he has started playing rather well on other surfaces as well. His hard-court game can be considered quite solid by now and he seems to have found something on the grass as well.

He’s played three matches so far in 2022 on the surface and won two of them. His first came in Queen’s Club in the qualies and he lost to Denis Kudla in three sets. Kudla is a very good grass player and nearly beat Matteo Berrettini in the main draw as well.

Now in Mallorca, he paid Kudla back with a win to secure the main draw over the American, again in three sets. Before this year Taro was only 2-6 on grass all time so this is certainly something impressive from the Japanese player.

It’s unfortunate he plays Roberto Bautista Agut because I can’t see him winning that one but he might be in for some wins at Wimbledon as well.

Bautista-Agut v Daniel Prediction and Tip

No matter how impressive the qualifying was from Taro Bautista operates on a higher level than either he or Kudla. The Spaniard proved he can stay with the best against Medvedev in Halle and I certainly expect him to do well here. He knows the courts and he’s played here before.

The conditions should suit him a bit better than at Halle too. He’s simply a better player overall and on this surface so that should be enough. Will be interesting if Daniel can make it close.

Tip: Bautista-Agut to win in straight sets: 11/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
