Alison Riske v Magda Linette Head to Head
If one includes a qualifying round encounter they had played all those years ago in Cincinnati in 2016, these two have faced off six times and Riske leads 5-1.
The only win for Linette came in their last meeting which was in Doha earlier this season where she won in three sets to move to second round.

Mixed Beginnings for Riske
A former WTA title winner on grass, Riske had a chance to make it two such title victories when she reached the final at Nottingham Open two weeks ago.
Unfortunately for her, a three-set defeat at the hands of Beatriz Maia Haddad in the final was followed by a shock first round loss at the Birmingham Open just two days later.
Riske lost 6-4, 6-3 in her opener to Katie Boulter despite having gone into the encounter as a 1/3 favourite but that could also have been down to the quick turnover of matches. Shifting base between Nottingham and Birmingham within a day and settling down to play in the opener might not have been the easiest thing to do.
Here, Riske had a first round bye as one of the seeded players and starts off a favourite yet again. This time, with enough of a gap between her previous match and this one.

Linette Lives up to Favourite Tag
Danka Kovinic was given no chance against Linette in their first round match here, with the bookmakers offering 1/4 for the latter’s win.
And while Linette lived up to that favourites tag, it didn’t come without a fight in the opening set.
The Polish player needed an hour and 24 minutes to get past Kovinic, winning 7-6 (1), 6-1, having struggled to carve out chances for herself in the first set.
In fact in a rare occurrence in that opening set, neither player got a break-point opportunity and it was only from the start of the inevitable tie-breaker that followed was Linette able to take down her opponent in a jiffy.
Against Riske, Linette will need to up the ante, but for now she would be satisfied with what has already been her best showing in Eastbourne.
