Jannik Sinner v Stan Wawrinka Head to Head

There have been two previous meetings between these two players and Wawrinka has won both times. Both matches came in 2019, with Wawrinka triumphing at the US Open and Antwerp Open.

Sinner Yet to Win on Grass

He has touched a world-best ranking of number nine in the world but Sinner is yet to win a main draw match in any grass court competition.

Sinner, who had failed to qualify for Wimbledon in 2019 and was then bounced out in the first round of that competition last season, will hope he takes better form into this year’s grass major than he showed in Eastbourne.

Because in Eastbourne, Sinner had a first round bye before falling to Tommy Paul in three sets in the second round. This was despite starting out a 4/6 favourite to get past his American opponent.

And he will enter Wimbledon on the back of that solo showing having opted not to feature in either the Giorgio Armani Tennis Classic or any of the ATP competitions which are in action before this week.

Can Sinner turn things around in this opener now?

Wawrinka Has Had His Struggles on Grass

For a player to have won three Grand Slam titles at a time when the Big Three of tennis reigned supreme is an achievement Wawrinka can be proud of. And despite that, for the Swiss player to have made it to the quarterfinal at Wimbledon just twice is a bit of a surprise.

Overall too, Wawrinka’s performance on grass will leave a lot to desire with the former world number three possessing a career win-loss record of 32-32 on this surface.

This year Wawrinka participated in the Queen’s Club competition and while he put one across Frances Tiafoe in three tie-breakers, he went down in straight sets in the second round at that tournament.

Later, in an exhibition match in Hurlingham, Wawrinka lost to Rafael Nadal in straight sets too.

With Wawrinka having never gone beyond at Wimbledon since 2016, this could be an onerous task but the one thing in his favour is his opponent’s struggles in this surface as well.

Sinner v Wawrinka Prediction and Tip

Sinner is 3/10 to win this which makes odds for a Wawrinka win too good to let go. Going for a Wawrinka victory at 5/2 might not be such a bad idea and for a safer bet we could also look at Wawrinka to win a set.

Tip: Wawrinka to win: 5/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
