Otte Secures Seeding Spot

German’s Oscar Otte has vaulted into an unlikely seeding spot for this year’s Wimbledon, thanks in part to his outstanding form in the past couple of weeks.

Otte who cracked the world’s Top 100 earlier this year, has been steadily rising in the rankings. After a tough start to life in 2022, the German has managed to crack the code on the main tour, reaching three semifinals on home soil, including going back-to-back in Stuttgart and Halle.

His performances on grass caught many by surprise especially when you consider that he was 9-7 on the surface in his professional career prior to this season. But victories over the likes of Shapovalov, Basilashvili, and Karen Khachanov at the aforementioned tournaments have given the German the blueprint to achieve more personal milestones.

Otte reached the second round of Wimbledon as a qualifier last season after three unsuccessful tries. But he won’t have to expend any energy playing qualifying matches now. His place inside the world’s Top 50 is confirmed, and following a handful of withdrawals, he has secured a Grand Slam seeding spot for the first time in his career.

Gojowczyk Looks To Turn Around Season

Peter Gojowczyk has endured one of his most ill-fated campaigns on the ATP Tour, posting a dismal 6-15 record at the halfway stage of the season.

Injuries have played a major part in Gojowczyk’s poor return of results. His quarterfinal run in Acapulco remains his best achievement for 2022 thus far but needed a huge slice of luck to do so. He earned a main draw spot as a lucky loser at the event and was fortunate enough to avoid Alexander Zverev who was disqualified from the tournament.

Things took a nasty turn in March when he only played two matches as a consequence of an undisclosed injury. On his return to the clay swing, he retired from Houston and Barcelona, and his ranking took a major hit.

In the past three months, the 32-year-old won two matches, both in qualifying, and remains without a main draw win since beating Nakashima in Mexico in February. Can he pull off an unlikely win on Monday?

Otte v Gojowczyk Prediction and Tip

A few seasons ago, Gojowczyk would have been the favorite in this one, but he has since been overtaken by Otte both in terms of ranking and results. The 32nd seed looks poised to reach the second round.
