Rus Has Suffered Four Opening Round Defeats in Wimbledon

Arantxa Rus will be making her sixth main draw appearance at Wimbledon. The Dutch left-hander has gone past the first round just once, and that was way back in 2012.

The 31-year-old Rus is 18-18 from all competitions this year and 5-9 in the main draws on the tour. In her only grass court tournament this year she participated in the WTA 125K in GAIBA, Italy. Rus defeated Anna Blinkova in the opening round but fell to Ana Bogdan in the second round.

Rus won her 28th ITF title this year in Santa Margherita di Pula, Italy. On the tour, she was a quarterfinalist in Rabat and first round wins in Qatar, Lyon and Istanbul.

While clay has been her favourite surface, which is reflected in her stats as well, she has found the least success on grass. The World No. 86 has an overall record of 16-25 across levels on grass.

Can she win her first match in Wimbledon since beating Sam Stosur in the second round 10 years ago?

Harrison Qualifies Without Dropping a Set

Catherine Harrison will be making her Wimbledon debut after qualifying for this year’s Championship.

The American defeated Eden Silva 6-1, 7-5; Ysaline Bonaventure 7-5, 6-1 and Yue Yuan 6-1, 7-6 (7-3) in the three qualifying rounds to enter the main draw.

Ranked No. 262nd in the world, Harrison is playing her first season on grass at any level. While she lost in the first qualifying round in Birmingham, she impressed in the qualifying rounds at Wimbledon.

A two-time ITF winner, the 28-year-old American hasn’t had much success at any level this year.

Harrison’s best this year was a quarterfinal finish at ITF Orlando-2. She will be hoping to carry her qualifying round form to the main draw.

Rus v Harrison Prediction and Tip

Despite Harrison’s performance in the qualifiers, Rus will be the favourite in this contest. Expect the Dutch player to advance for a second round meeting with either Jil Teichmann or Ajla Tomljanovic.
