Martinez’s Form Extremely Worrying

Pedro Martinez will need to arrest this downward spiral very soon and possibly in his first-round match at Wimbledon.

The Spaniard did get a W in Eastbourne when he beat Davidovich Fokina via a retirement. But you would have to go all the way back to April to see his last completed match win which came in Monte Carlo when he defeated the out-of-form Ugo Humbert.

He lost a whopping six first-round matches since then, and only managed to stop the rot in Eastbourne.

It is somewhat perplexing especially when you consider that this could be his best year on the ATP Tour. Martinez bagged his maiden ATP title on the clay courts of Santiago in February – which must feel like ages ago.

However, it is pertinent to note that the 25-year-old reached the third round of Wimbledon last season, losing to Chile’s  Cristian Garin.

Molcan Continues to Break New Ground

2022 continues to be Alex Molcan’s breakout year on the ATP Tour. The Slovakian lefty will be playing at Wimbledon for the first time and who can begrudge him such an achievement?

For a player who has been painstakingly tried to build his career from the lower rungs of men’s tennis, Molcan’s rise has been one of the feel-good stories of the men’s tennis season.

The 24-year-old is in the Wimbledon main draw for the first time thanks in part to his rise in the ATP rankings. Molcan has a career-high ranking of No. 38, but currently occupies the 50th spot in the rankings.

He has reached two ATP finals already this season, losing in three sets each time to more experienced opponents such as Cameron Norrie and David Goffin.

Martinez v Molcan Prediction and Tip

Martinez’s last completed match win is now over two months old. It is tough to see him getting anything from this match.
