Fritz Aims to Emulate Wimbledon Best

It did not take Fritz too much time to make it to the second round and he will now aim to emulate his previous best performance at Wimbledon when he takes on the little-known British player.

Fritz routed Lorenzo Musetti 6-4, 6-4, 6-3 in an hour and 45 minutes, slamming 16 aces in the process and breaking his opponent four times while losing his own serve just once.

Where Fritz seemed to have scored over his opponent drastically was his first serves, of which he won 92% of the points. As compared to that, Musetti was at a respectable but woefully short 69%.

The result did not come as much of a surprise either, with Fritz having entered Wimbledon on the back of a title win at Eastbourne only last week where he tamed the likes of Alex de Minaur and Maxime Cressy to defend his title.

He will be confident of making it six wins in a row here.

Gray Reverses Losing Streak on Grand Slam Debut

Having made his ATP debut in 2019, Gray was playing in his first ever Grand Slam match after getting a wildcard and took down Chun Hsin Tseng in his opener in what looked like a surprise result.

Gray won 6-3, 6-3, 7-6 (3) in two hours and 26 minutes to move into the second round and set up this meeting with Fritz. Slamming seven aces and a whopping 54 winners, Gray also saved nine of the 10 break-points he faced in the entire match.

In turn, the Brit broke his opponent four times, and pulled off an easy win in the end.

He had earlier lost four successive matches at the Surbiton and Nottingham Challenger competitions and qualifiers at the Queen’s and Eastbourne. This win could well be a confidence-booster as a result but will it be enough for him to challenge his more illustrious American opponent? Looks doubtful.
