Tommy Paul v Jiri Vesely Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, the American winning on the clay of Parma last year, and the hard courts of Adelaide in January.

Paul Enjoying His Wimbledon Debut

So far, Paul has taken to Wimbledon like a duck to water on his debut here.

He cruised past the Spaniard Fernando Verdasco in the first round, but may have expected a sterner challenge from the experienced Adrian Mannarino, a man who, in the past, has had some success in grass court tournaments,

However, the world number 86 dropped two service games in a row to concede the first set, and, having saved several break points in the second was broken again, enabling Paul to establish a two set lead.

It was almost one way traffic after that and two more breaks in the third set enabled the American to wrap up the match in exactly two hours.

Vesely Wins Five Set Battle

Whilst Paul was enjoying an easy afternoon, it was anything but for Vesely in his match with the world number 37, Alejandro Davidovich-Fokina, of Spain.

The Czech started well enough, one break of serve enough for him to take the first set.

But despite the Spaniard dropping his serve at the start of the second set, he recovered the break and then broke again to level the match.

A dropped serve apiece meant that the third set went to a tie-break, which Davidovich-Fokina went on to win.

When Vesely had break points against him midway through the fourth set he seemed to be staring down the barrel. But he dug deep, saved them and broke the Spaniard once more, forcing the match into a deciding set.

That saw fortunes fluctuate. Davidovich-Fokina dropped his serve but, before he could relax too much, so did Vesely.

In the end the only way the match could be decided was by a tie-break, and, even that needed 17 points before the Czech could finally celebrate the victory.

Paul v Vesely Prediction and Tip
