World No. 17 Jelena Ostapenko marched into the third round with a straight sets drubbing of Belgium’s Yanina Wickmayer in the Round of 64 on Wednesday.
The 12th seed Latvian saved both the break points that she faced in the match and converted four of 13 break points to beat the qualifier 6-2, 6-2 in an hour and 12 minutes.
Ostapenko hit 45 winners to Wickmayer’s 6 but also made 28 unforced errors to the Belgian’s 5. The victory was Ostapenko’s second straight-set win in a row. She had defeated France’s Oceane Dodin 6-4, 6-4 in the opening round.
A semifinalist in 2018 and a quarterfinalist in 2017, Ostapenko has reached the third round of Wimbledon for the fourth time in her seventh attempt.
The 25-year-old, who won the Dubai title this year, was a finalist in Eastbourne in the tune up to Wimbledon. She will be looking to reach the fourth round for the third time.

Begu Makes Quick Work of Cocciaretto
World no. 43 Irina-Camelia Begu needed just an hour and 20 minutes to dispatch World No. 119 Elisabetta Cocciaretto in the second round on Wednesday.
The Romanian got the solitary break in the first set and also got off to a great start in the second, breaking the Italian in the very first game. But Cocciaretto got the break back in the eighth game, only to see Begu restore the advantage by breaking back in the next game. The Romanian closed out the match in the next game for a 6-4, 6-4 win.
Begu had also won the opening round match in straight sets, defeating Georgia’s Ekaterine Gorgodze 6-4, 6-1.
This is the 31-year-old’s first tournament since she reached the fourth round of the French Open. Begu is into the third round at Wimbledon for the third time and will be aiming to reach the Round of 16 for the first time.

Ostapenko has a better record at Wimbledon and she is in great touch as well. Expect her to advance for a fourth round meeting with either Maria Sakkari or Tatjana Maria.
