Eastbourne Winner Fritz Marches On

Fritz has now matched his feat of reaching the third round of Wimbledon from last year. He has yet to go further than that in any Grand Slam event.

So far, though, the American, who won Eastbourne last week, has yet to encounter any bumps in the road.

Having beaten the Italian Lorenzo Musetti, his second round opponent was the British wildcard Alastair Gray, the world number 286.

Gray dropped his opening service game of the match, and that was enough to earn Fritz the first set.

The Englishman had brief hope when he broke Fritz early in the second set, but the American soon levelled, and went on to dominate the subsequent tie-break.

Again Gray momentarily entertained thoughts of a fightback when he broke the American at the start of the third set. But the momentum shifted as Fritz won four games in a row.

Gray did save four match points on his own serve. But he could do nothing to stop Fritz serving out next game.

Slovak Eases to Win Aganst Fritz Compatriot

Molcan, who would primarily regard himself as a clay court player, had never even qualified for the main draw at Wimbledon until this year.

But the Slovak, who had to come from behind to beat Pedro Martinez of Spain in the first round, had a much more comfortable win over Fritz’s compatriot, Marcos Giron, on Thursday.

The match began with the two men swapping a break of serve each, but then Giron was broken once more, and Molcan held on to take the set.

Giron started the second set badly, lost the first four games, and there was no way back from that.

When the American dropped his serve again at the start of the third set, the match was effectively over for him. All Molcan had to do was hold serve, which he did with a  minimum of bother.

Fritz v Molcan Prediction and Tip

Having won Eastbourne last week, Fritz is in a rich vein of form on grass right now. Molcan, who had previously never been in the main draw at Wimbledon before, has done well to get this far, but the American will start the clear favourite.

Tip: Fritz to win: 5/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
