Paula Badosa v Petra Kvitova Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Kvitova; she last won their match in the 2020 Australian Open in straight sets.

Kvitova Finding her Rhythm

A two-time Wimbledon champion, Petra Kvitova is looking to reclaim some of that former glory that once kept her in the top five with a career-high ranking at the #2 spot.

Her last title here came in 2014 when she was some 24 years old – since then, the Czech has not quite made it past the fourth round.

Looking at her current season – which has been full of inconsistencies and early losses – it wouldn’t be a stretch to make the assumption this time too. However, Kvitova is a tennis veteran and a highly exceptional player – to underestimate her is an obvious error to make.

Petra won the Eastbourne title last week after beating the in-form Beatriz Haddad Maia and Jelena Ostapenko in the final matches. That was also her first title in over a year.

This week at the SW19, Kvitova navigated the bracket with a three-set win over Jasmine Paolini and a 6-1, 7-6(5) win over Ana Bogdan. Her game is getting better, giving her a good chance with Badosa.

Badosa, Yet to Drop a Set

Paula Badosa has made quick work of her matches early on as she dismissed Louisa Chirico 6-2, 6-1 and Irina Bara 6-3, 6-2. Of course, both those players were just warm-ups for the number four-ranked Spaniard.

Paula, age 24, has had a stellar year with several deep runs that took her into the top five (current tally 26-12).

In the process, she built her oeuvre for 2022 with wins over Belinda Bencic, Daria Kasatkina, Barbora Krejcikova, and Ons Jabeur. She has been consistent in results across the clay and hard courts and now aims to do the same on grass.

That said, Badosa is still untested on this turf – significantly when compared to Kvitova. She is now 7-7 in her career on the surface while Kvitova is 66-21. Plus, she did lose to Jodie Burrage in Eastbourne’s first round in straight sets.

Kvitova v Badosa Prediction and Tip

This match can swing either way but Kvitova has definitely got the upper hand. If she can sustain a disciplined approach with low unforced errors and let Badosa create the openings, then we may an upset.

On the other side, Paula has been far more consistent on the whole and can make life tricky for her adversary. Expect a brilliant match.
