Carlos Alcaraz (5) v Oscar Otte (32)

Alcaraz, seeded 5th at this year’s championship is the biggest raising star on the ATP tour.

Last year, ranked 75th in the world, he lost in the second round to current world no.1 Daniil Medvedev in straight sets. After he survived his first round scare against Jan-Lennard Struff in a match that went to five sets, he comfortably cruised against Tallon Griekspoor in straight sets to book his third round Wimbledon ticket for the first time.

Across the net from him is an in-form German, who cracked the top 100 in the second week of the year is now a seeded player at the third Grand Slam of the year.

Two weeks prior to Wimbledon, he made the semifinals in Stuttgart taking out Denis Shapovalov along the way, before falling to eventual champion – Matteo Berrettini.

That gave him a confidence boost, as he received a wildcard to play Halle and reached another semifinal. Along the way, he defeated Miomir Kecmanovic, Nikoloz Basilashvili and Karen Khachanov, before falling to Medvedev.

Alcaraz still lacks experience on grass, so will we see an upset on the Center court? Well, Otte will definitely not go down without a fight.

Angelique Kerber (15) v Elise Mertens (24)

In the second half of the women’s draw, we have only one match featuring two seeded players – former Wimbledon champ Angie Kerber is taking on Elise Mertens.

Two players had totally different paths to the round of 32. Kerber has ousted two dangerous unseeded floaters in Kristina Mladenovic and Magda Linette.

On the other hand, we have Mertens who had to dig deep and come from a set down in both of her encounters. In round two, world no. 100 Udvardy had a double match point on her serve in the second set, but Mertens was able to survive and reach the last 32.

Mertens has won their only official meeting in the semifinals of Doha in 2019. The Belgian had a fourth round showing at both of this year’s Grand slams, while the former world no.1 is yet to have a last 16 showing this season.

All signs point to Kerber, but is Mertens able to pull an upset and go into her fourth consecutive last 16 appearance at majors?

Jannik Sinner (10) v John Isner (20)

The 21-year old Italian Sinner proved that he can play on grass, notching his first ever tour-level grass court win by taking out Stan Wawrinka in the opening round. He backed that win by defeating Ymer to go through to the third round.

On the other hand, John Isner has all the goods to play on grass, especially his biggest weapon – a powerful serve. Isner, who lost the heartbreaking Wimbledon semifinal in 2018, 26-24 in the fifth set had two big tests at the start of the tournament.

He had to battle to fight back from 2-1 down to defeat Couacaud in the first round. After that, he had an honor of playing Sir Andy Murray at Center court and broke hearts all around Great Britain after taking him out in four sets.

Their rivalry is tied at 1-1, with Isner taking a tough three setter at Cincinnati, while Sinner took revenge with a 6:2, 6:0 win at the Davis Cup finals.

Isner should be a favorite to pull through to the last 16, but Sinner might take his newly found confidence on grass to live another day on the All-England club courts.

Honorable Mention

Tiafoe v Bublik, a match between two entertaining players, who are bound to give us a great show.
