Swiatek Stretched by Pattinama Kerkhove

Swiatek’s lack of practice on grass before Wimbledon wasn’t evident in her opening round victory over Jana Fett but the little-known Lesley Pattinama Kerkhove did make things difficult for the world number one in round two.

The Polish player needed three sets to get past Pattinama Kerkhove, registering a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 win in over two hours. In the end, it was a decisive service break in the fourth game of the final set that Swiatek held on to, to grab her victory.

And with Swiatek winning 41 of her 60 first serve points and Pattinama Kerkhove replying with 44 points out of 63, it was the two players’ second serves that proved to be the difference between them.

The world number 138 dished out eight double-faults to Swiatek’s one and that allowed the Pole to come away with the win.

Swiatek would like to do a lot better than to rely her opponent’s problems to bail her out as she takes on a reasonably in-form Cornet for a place in round four.

Cornet Dispatches Liu

A semifinalist at Bad Homburg last week, Cornet has continued from where she left and registered her second successive straight-set win to reach round three.

Having won only one match at Wimbledon in the past four editions of this competition, Cornet had earlier sent Yulia Putintseva packing from the first round. And in the second round, Cornet usurped Claire Liu 6-3, 6-3 in a mere hour and 21 minutes.

After saving three break-points in the second game of the opening set, Cornet broke her opponent twice to go one zero up and then again in the second game to take a 3-0 lead.

While Cornet lost her serve in the seventh game, she broke Liu back in the very next game and served it out to love to scoop up the match.

And with that kind of form and confidence Cornet will give herself bit of a chance against the record-breaking Swiatek.

Swiatek v Cornet Prediction and Tip

Swiatek is 1/5 to win this but with Cornet showing that kind of form, and grass not being the Pole’s most preferred surface, it could get close.

Tip: Swiatek to win AND Over 19.5 games in the match: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
