Despite reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open in January, it has largely been a season to forget for Mannarino, as he continually struggles for form.
However, he received a much needed confidence boost in Rosmalen, a tournament he won back in 2019, reaching the semi-final before losing to the world number one Daniil Medvedev.
He would have been disappointed then to lose in the first round of Eastbourne, and, although he battled past Purcell in five sets in their opening round match at Wimbledon, he then lost in straight sets to the American Tommy Paul.

Wimbledon Doubles Champion Purcell
Purcell has been granted a wildcard into the main draw at Newport Beach.
Last year he broke into the world’s top 200 for the first time and reached a career high of 156 in the world, but his ranking has slipped since then.
He made his debut in singles at Wimbledon this year after coming through qualifying, only to lose to Mannarino in their five set battle.
But it is in doubles that he has really excelled, with Luke Saville reaching the final of the Australian Open in 2020, and again with Matthew Ebden earlier this year.
But he comes to America as a Grand Slam winner, because he and Ebden have just beaten the Croat pair of Nikola Mektić, and Mate Pavić to lift the Wimbledon trophy.
Mannarino v Purcell Prediction and Tip
Mannarino may have won their Wimbledon meeting two weeks ago, but it was a close run thing, and since then Purcell has had the boost of becoming a Grand Slam champion in doubles. That may just give the Australian an extra spring in his step and help him get revenge.
