Yulia Putintseva v Anna Schmiedlova Head to Head

Putintseva leads the H2H 2-1 but the most recent one ended with her retirement in 2018.

Putintseva Back on Clay

Yulia Putintseva tried her best on grass but it was not a pleasant experience as it rarely is for her. She does best on clay and it’s the surface that’s a natural fit for her game the most.

Precise groundstrokes, very solid movement and a fighting spirit rivalling a lion are the trademarks of her game. She went 1-2 on grass and her 10-5 record on clay looks much better. She’s 17-12 on the year so it’s been okay albeit not that great.

Putintseva is capable of much more but she simply can’t find the needed consistency. She plays one great match than a lacklustre one and we go in circles from there. Her best run this year came in Rome where she won 5 matches including the main draw and qualifiers.

If she can rediscover some of that form, she will be tough to handle for any opponent.

Schmiedlova Keeps on Playing

Anna Schmiedlova is a tennis player very dedicated to her craft. She played 58 matches last year and she’s on a solid pace to play a similar number this year.

The goal for her is simple. Get back to the top 30 level she had a few years ago but even after playing so much, she can’t find the right level. Just last week she took part in a 125K event in Bastad but she got beaten by the talented Rebeka Masarova.

These are matches that she should be winning if she wants to get back to where she once was. Clay is her best surface and she mostly plays on it. 2022 has been okay with a 16-15 record but she can certainly do much better than that. Schmiedlova is 11-9 on clay this year.

Recently it looked a bit better for her so a win here against a very good player could do wonders for her confidence.

Putintseva v Schmiedlova Prediction and Tip

Yulia is the far better player both on clay and generally. She simply is able to take her game to a higher level compared to Schmiedlova and I think that is important on clay. I do expect many long rallies and a very physical match with Putintseva getting the win. She beat her twice already albeit neither match happened on clay.

Tip: Putintseva to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
