World No. 55 Tamara Zidansek won the Lausanne Open title last year buy defeating Clara Burel in the final. The Slovenian will be hoping to make a solid start this season as she looks to defend her title.
The 24-year-old, who was a surprise semifinalist at Roland Garros last year, has struggled for form this season. She has an overall season record of 11-13 and is 2-4 on clay.
She lost in the opening rounds in Stuttgart and Rome, and could win just one match in Madrid. At Roland Garros, she won her opener, got a walkover in the second round but lost in the third round to Jessica Pegula.
Zidansek, who won the doubles title at the Rosmalen Open this year, has a 14-4 record in finals on clay courts at the ITF level.

Kalinskaya Is 1-4 on Clay This Year
Facing Zidansek is World No. 73 Anna Kalinskaya. The 23-year-old Russian, who will be making her tournament debut, is 16-13 this season.
On clay, Kalinskaya is 1-4 this season, with her only win coming over Marine Partaud in WTA 125K in Paris.
A semifinalist in Guadalajara this year, Kalinskaya reached the third round in Miami as a qualifier and in Indian Wells as a lucky loser.
She will have to make the transition from grass, where she was 2-3 this season. Can she find form in Laussane? Seems difficult as Kalinskaya hasn’t played since her opening round loss in Bad Homburg.
She also hasn’t played on clay since her first round defeat at the French Open. And to top it all she will be up against last year’s champion, who is an extremely good clay court player.

Zidansek will be the favourite to win this contest but not without some fight from Kalinskaya. Expect a three-set win for the seed.
