Holger Rune had a very bad time on grass and it’s mostly due to the fact that he has not played that much on the surface. It’s not an easy surface to master and you need some time, especially when all your tennis insticts are clay ones.
Rune will be glad to be back on clay because he’s been absolutely majestic on the surface this year. 27-17 is the score overall with a 21-8 record on clay. It paints a very clear picture of just how good he has been on it. He even won his maiden trophy in Munich thanks to a retirement in the final.
His confidence is not that high at the moment after going 0-3 on grass but he’ll certainly find some of it in Bastad. It’s a city fairly close to his native Denmark so it’s not been a taxing trip. It’s a rather slow clay surface which will serve him well.
Rune will like a deep run here and he’s good a decent draw. Now it’s up to him to back it up on the court.

Huesler Through the Qualifiers
Swiss representative Marc-Andrea Huesler needed two wins in the qualifiers to get into the main draw but he passed that test with ease. They were two contrasting matches as he smashed Leo Borg in round one 6-1 6-1. He’s the son of tennis legend Bjorn Borg.
In round two he faced Fabio Fognini whose bad form this year made him drop deep in the rankings. He now has to play qualifiers for ATP 250 events and that’s not good for him. The Swiss player was able to outlast the Italian and win in three sets.
Huesler’s game is based upon his powerful serve. If it works, he’s good, if it doesn’t work, he’s quite poor. Rune will fancy that as he has a pretty good return and players from far back. The Swiss player will also face issues with the movement of Rune.
He will be forced to attack and if he can’t muster up some spectacular consistency he’ll be in a tough spot.
Rune v Huesler Prediction and Tip
I don’t have to explain why Rune is expected to win this match. He’s the far better player and more consistent. He had a rough time on grass but I don’t expect that to translate to clay courts.
I do think he might be a bit rusty but he will certainly have a good enough level to win this match. Let’s say he’ll do it in straight sets.
