Collins Makes Maiden Lausanne Trip

After a brief grass court season which ended on a whimper, Danielle Collins will look to shake off that defeat to Marie Bouzkova in the first round of Wimbledon.

She will certainly hope lightning does not strike twice when she faces Simona Waltert. It is the second year in a row that Collins has tweaked her schedule to accommodate clay court tournaments just after playing the Wimbledon Championships.

Last season she was rewarded handsomely for that decision, making the semi-finals in Budapest before sealing a title win in Palermo.

The American will be the biggest draw at the WTA 250 event in Lausanne where she is the top seed and is making her debut at the event. Can she round off the week with her first title of 2022?

Waltert Gets Third Straight Wild Card

Simona Waltert has earned a third wild card at her home tournament and this time there are no doubts regarding the meritocracy of getting it.

Waltert is coming off a terrific first half of the season on the ITF tour which saw her bag the biggest title of her career at the W60 Amstelveen ITF. She dropped just one set in five matches, and topped off the week with a 7-6 6-0 win over Emma Navarro in the final.

The run in the Netherlands last week vaulted her ranking to a career high No. 154 and makes a return to a tournament she holds fond memories. In 2019 she defeated former top 10 player Julia Goerges in her WTA main draw debut albeit via a retirement. And last year, she won the doubles title alongside Susan Bandecchi.

Can the 21-year-old extended her winning patch on Tuesday?

Collins v Waltert Prediction and Tip

Waltert’s 16 of her 20 wins this season have come on clay, so there is a slight chance she might give Collins a problem to solve. But the American should be far too polished for the young Swiss.

Tip: Collins to win in straight sets: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
