Duckworth’s Mid Season Re-build Continues

James Duckworth is infamously known for his struggles with injuries and has had a surgery 9 times in the last 10 years. After the Australian Open this year, he had another surgery to fix an issue in his hip.

The Australian kickstarted his season in Lyon back in May. He lost his first five matches after returning back from the surgery but has now managed to find some form winning 7 of his last 10 matches.

Duckworth faced a first round exit to Andy Murray in Wimbledon. He went to Porto to play challenger on hard court and reached the semifinal.

The world number 74 played his first round match in Newport against Liam Broady and was set as the underdog by bookmakers. Duckworth managed to find a victory in three sets to reach the second round of Newport for the first time in his career.

Kubler in the Form of his Life

Jason Kubler is playing the best tennis of his life at this moment. He is 40-11 on all surfaces this year and is 8-1 on grass.

His notable ascend this season started when he reached the second round of the French Open after starting out from the qualifying draw. He went on to win the Little Rock challenger and then reached the final of the Orlando Challenger.

His brilliant form continued in Wimbledon, where he reached the round of 16 spectacularly after starting from the qualifying draw again.  That was 6 wins on the trot in Wimbledon, unfortunately for him the points for the Grand Slam were not counted this year.

Kubler had brought his hot form in Newport. He brushed past Jordan Thompson 6-2, 6-3 in the first round and then caused a major upset by defeating the number 1 seed Felix Auger Aliassime in three sets.

The Australian spoke in recent interviews about all the hard work he has done off season and how it is paying off. His serve has improved tenfold and his construction of baseline rallies has always been that of a top 50 player.

Duckworth v Kubler Prediction and Tip

Duckworth may not be at his peak and Kubler is playing at his highest level with extreme confidence. There is one clear winner here despite the H2H record and it could well be a straight set win for Kubler.
