Caroline Garcia has had a good week in Lausanne as she just defeated Sara Sorribes Tormo 6-4, 6-1, to reach yet another semifinal. In the preceding matches, she delivered similar clinical wins over the likes of Leolia Jeanjean and Jasmine Paolini.
Yet to drop a set, Garcia has now improved her year-to-date figures to 20-12. She also arrived in Switzerland on the back of positive results on the tour.
Caroline won the French Open doubles with Kristina Mladenovic and soon followed it with a title run in Bad Homburg. It was her first WTA singles trophy in three years as she later reached the fourth round in Wimbledon.
As a former World No. 4 with a decent record against the top 10 players on the tour, Garcia is certainly well-experienced and skilled to win the title in Lausanne.
After enduring bouts of inconsistency in the first half of the season, she has done well to turn it around in the last few weeks.

Martic Upsets Bencic
World No. 85 Petra Martic has just carved the upset of the tournament by beating the local favourite, number two seed Belinda Bencic 6-3, 7-6(2).
This marks a rare feat for the 31-year-old, who has spent most of the season incurring early losses. That said, the little semblance of momentum which she did enjoy at times, it all came on clay courts. Most notably, Martic reached the second round in the Madrid Open and the third round in Rome – both as a qualifier. Earlier in the season, she was also a quarterfinalist in Indian Wells.
Here in Switzerland, she has revived herself a bit after dismissing Nuria Parrizas-Diaz and Erika Andreeva in the preceding matches. It also follows a respectable round of 16 appearance at Wimbledon, where she fell to the eventual champion Elena Rybakina.
Although Martic is experienced, she is not the most consistent performer on the tour. Her last singles final was in 2019 September, and since then, she has played in just three semifinals on the tour.
Garcia v Martic Prediction and Tip
Garcia is the clear favourite here owing to her superior pedigree and her lead over Martic. Given her momentum, it is reasonable to expect her to win this one.
However, Petra did deliver a big win and boosted by that confidence, she will fancy her chances – making her a good underdog bet to make.
