Rublev Knocks Out Djere

World No. 8 Andrey Rublev entered the sixth semifinal of the season with a routine win over Serbia’s Laslo Djere in the quarterfinal on Friday.

The second seed, who survived a second round scare against Argentina’s Federico Coria, needed an hour and 36 minutes to dispatch the World no. 53, 7-5, 6-4 on Friday.

Rublev won 78% points on the back of his first serve. He saved 6 of 7 break points and converted 3 of 4 to oust Djere.

The Russian, who had a first-round bye, had beaten Coria 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 (7-2) in two hours and 36 minutes in the round of 16.

With the win, Rublev’s season record improved to 31-9. He is 13-4 on clay, which includes a title in Belgrade and a quarterfinal finish in Roland Garros.

An 11-time champion from 16 finals, the 24-year-old Russian will be looking to reach a fourth final of the year. He has won all three of the finals this year in Marseille, Dubai and Belgrade, and seems to be inching closer to a fourth.

Baez Ends Thiem’s Run

Sebastian Baez’s impressive run continued as the 21-year-old Argentine ended Dominic Thiem’s run in the quarterfinals to reach a third semifinal of the year.

Baez, who had won the Estoril Open title earlier this year and finished runner-up in Santiago, improved his season record to 24-16, which includes a 20-9 run on clay.

After taking the first set, Baez failed to convert a match point on Thiem’s serve in the 10th game of the second, allowing the Austrian to make a comeback in the contest. Thiem took the second set in the tiebreak, forcing the decider, but eventually it was Baez, who got the only break of the third set in the fifth game before closing out the contest 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.

Baez had begun his campaign with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Fabio Fognini in the opening round. He next defeated Alejandro Davidovich Fokina 6-2, 6-3 in the round of 16. Having got into a good rhythm and having scored wins over some tough opponents he will be feeling confident going into the semifinal clash.

Rublev v Baez Prediction and Tip

The second seed Rublev is the highest seed remaining, following Casper Ruud’s exit. He will face some stiff resistance from Baez but eventually he should advance to a fourth final of the season.
