Nikoloz Basilashvili v Aslan Karatsev Head to Head

They played six times before and Basilashvili leads 5-1. The most recent match happened in 2014.

Poor Form From Basilashvili

Nikoloz Basilashvili is not playing very strong tennis this year and that’s especially noticeable lately. The Georgian was recently named as a player under investigation for match-fixing which he categorically denied. It seemed to have impacted him as he completely failed against Hugo Gaston last week in Bastad.

He retired from the match due to undisclosed reasons but generally, it’s been a bad time for the Georgian. He’s 13-23 on the year which is really poor and generally you simply never know what you will get with him.

He is one of the worst players to bet on because he can play superb tennis at times while also producing a terrible effort in the next match. You are never sure what kind of player you will get. That being said, Hamburg has been his house for years.

He’s triumphed here a couple of times and usually always plays well. There is a trend with him in that regard as Doha is another place he loves. It’s unclear how fit he is at the moment but generally he should play a bit better in Hamburg than he did so far this season. It’s not a high standard to live up to.

Karatsev Facing a Slump

There were two players named in the ZDF report for match-fixing with the 2nd being Aslan Karatsev. Two players under investigation for match-fixing are facing each other in Hamburg one week after the report is out. Life is funny sometimes.

That being said, like Basilashvili, Karatsev too is struggling with his tennis. He’s playing a bit better than his opponent and generally is a bit more ‘stable’ but that’s not saying much. He’s also had a bit of a better year although it’s quite poor as well 12-17.

Bastad was a good experience for him as he beat Sonego in round one, Gaston in round two and then lost to Cerundolo in the quarterfinal.

That should help him heading into Hamburg because he desperately needs some wins. Basilashvili owned him in the past so there should be some motivation there.

Basilashvili v Karatsev Prediction and Tip

So Basilashvili owned him in the past which is not surprising. Most of those matches are a long time ago but the Georgian is truly the more talented player.

He is not playing better at the moment though with Karatsev showing more in Bastad Hamburg has been the place for Basilashvili to end slumps and I have a funny feeling that he might do so again. However I can not back him in this spot, the logical play is on Karatsev in this one.

Tip: Karatsev to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
