Anna Bondar v Clara Burel Head to Head
It’s 1-1 between the two ladies; they last met in the 2021 ITF Wiesbaden, where Bondar won in straight sets.

Anna Bondar, now ranking at a career-best spot of #53, has been quite impressive on the clay courts of late.
She has reached consecutive semifinals on the tour – starting with the Contrexeville Challenger and following it with a similar result at her home tournament in the Budapest Grand Prix.
In the latter, Anna defeated the likes of Jesika Maleckova, Despina Papamichail, and the second seed, reigning French Open semifinalist Martina Trevisan in straight sets. Bondar delivered similar results during the clay swing in May when she was one of the elite four in Karlsruhe Challenger and WTA Rabat.
On the whole, the 25-year-old has 16 ITF finals on the red surface. She has also improved her tally to 25-16 for the season.
With this kind of form, Bondar is certainly primed for another good run in Palermo – at least on paper.

Burel, Out of Touch
Clara Burel arrived in Italy on the back of a disastrous spell that can be summarised with 8-16. Her last tournament was in Lausanne, where she fell to Sara Sorribes Tormo in round two.
Before that loss, the current World No. 106 was on a four-match losing streak – spread across three clay tournaments.
In fact, with the sole exception of the Makarska Challenger, Burel has not won more than one match in any other competition this year.
Amidst this, it is certainly hard to imagine her finding her rhythm against someone who is in form like Bondar.
Burel’s pedigree is not particularly strong either; the 21-year-old is armed with a sole WTA final from last year and eight ITF finals over her career.

This match is Bondar’s to lose; she has the experience, rhythm, and skillset needed to dispatch the shaky Burel and reach the second round comfortably.
