Lorenzo Musetti suffered four consecutive round one losses and it’s been a troublesome trend for the young Italian who can’t seem to figure things out. Musetti is supremely talented and he plays excellent on clay yet his consistency is never there.
Even when he’s playing a good match, Musetti finds himself unable to keep his level high during the entire match. Last week in Bastad he ran into Djere who knew exactly what to do to beat the Italian. A lot was expected from him this year and it’s a good year with a 21-17 record but it’s far from impressive.
Most of those wins came in the first part of the season and with hard court season coming up, Musetti might be in trouble here. He needs some good wins on clay to prepare him for the transition to hard courts but the slump lately has been hard to overcome.
Lajovic is a tricky opponent but he’ll have a chance if he plays the way he can. Will he though?

Lajovic Still Up and Down
Dusan Lajovic played some strong tennis a while ago but the Serbian has since hit a wall. Being inconsistent is the consistent story in his career with him never quite figuring it out. From time to time he’ll have a brilliant event, particularly on clay, but we’re far removed from such a result.
The year is bad overall with a 17-20 record and he only was able to salvage some of that on the challenger tour. Whenever he faced stronger opposition he found himself beaten more often than not. His most recent event was the Salzburg challenger where he lost to Thiago Monteiro.
Most of his struggles have been on hard courts where he has a 3-8 record with the clay part of the season much better 13-10. You never know what you’ll get from him so it’s hard prediction what kind of player will show up in Hamburg.
In theory, he will have a chance against Musetti because the Italian is inconsistent as well but it will be tricky.
Musetti v Lajovic Prediction and Tip
I’m leaning Musetti here for the simple fact he actually played last week. It’s a weak reason to back him but I could see Lajovic struggling a bit early on giving Musetit enough time to figure out a good rhythm.
The Italian looked okay against Djere and I think this week in Hamburg it could click. He usually brings us the best tennis on the bigger stage. Take Musetti but be aware it’s a very weak case for him to win it.
