Irina-Camelia Begu v Marina Bassols Ribera Head to Head

Number six seed Irina-Camelia Begu is certainly among the most experienced players in her bracket in Palermo. Combined with her decent clay pedigree, the current World No. 45 will fancy her chances of a good run.
At the very least, the opening few matches here should be easy for her; Irina will likely play Oceane Dodin next if she surpasses Ribera.
Currently, she is 18-13 in the season with her best run coming in the French Open, where she made it to the fourth round. Begu also was a semifinalist in St. Petersburg and reached the mid-rounds in Wimbledon, Charleston, Miami, and Melbourne Set 2.
Most recently, she participated in Lausanne, where she fell to the eventual semifinalist Anastasia Potapova in round two.

Ribera, Working Hard
22-year-old Marina Bassols Ribera of Spain arrived in Palermo with a tally of 24-14 and a singles ranking of World No. 211.
She has spent most of her season on the ITF circuit – building her form and gaining much-needed experience. Her efforts have borne some decent results – she won the titles in Madrid and Palma del Rio to make significant leaps in the ranking.
Ribera has also tried her luck on the doubles circuit, where she won the ITF Tossa de Mar in May.
Interestingly, Palermo will only be her second WTA tournament of the season. Her last such stint was in Budapest, where, as a qualifier, she fell to Bernarda Pera in the first round.
Here too, she started from the prelims and dismissed Dalila Spiteri and Despina Papamichail in straight sets.
Begu v Ribera Prediction and Tip
This match is certainly Begu’s to lose; she is well-experienced and although is on shaky grounds at the moment, she should do well to move past Ribera comfortably.
