Rebecca Peterson v Kateryna Kozlova Head to Head
There have been two previous meetings between these two, with both winning one apiece. The first came in the qualifiers of the 2019 Wuhan Open and it was Kozlova who won a tough three-setter before Peterson had her revenge in Monterrey in 2020.
This will be their first meeting on clay.

Playing at home in Bastad at the start of this month, Peterson made it all the way up to the quarterfinal of that tournament before losing to Lauren Davis. And that’s what she would like to repeat here in Hamburg too following on from what has been a lacklustre year otherwise.
In fact, other than those back to back victories in that tournament, Peterson hasn’t won successive matches in the main draws of any of the other WTA competitions this year.
So much so, she had to try and get some of her rhythm back by featuring on the ITF circuit where again, she managed a quarterfinal appearance in Wiesbaden.
The question now is if she can make it two strong showings in back to back competitions.

Kozlova Makes it as a Lucky Loser
Kozlova needed to qualify to make it through to the main draw of this competition but failed to do so directly when she lost in the second round to Sabine Lisicki in a three-set thriller.
It was only a late withdrawal that allowed Kozlova to make it through to the main draw of just her third WTA 250 (or above) competition of the season.
She had earlier qualified for the Budapest Open last week, and then crushed Time Babos in the first round to register her first main draw victory of the year.
All this has meant that the once-62nd-ranked Kozlova has now fallen to 138th on the WTA charts and coming into this match against a slightly better-placed Peterson might not make things easier for her.
