Benoît Paire v Elias Ymer Head to Head

The pair have never played each other before. This will be the first match between the 33 year old Frenchman, and the Swede, who is seven years younger.

Paire in Dismal Form

It has been a thoroughly miserable 2022 for Paire so far, who was once ranked as high as 19 in the world, and was in and around the top 40 for the best part of a decade.

But having started the year 46th in the world, it is not inconceivable he could find himself out of the top 100 if his current woes continue.

The only time he has won a main draw match since reaching the Australian Open third round was also on Swiss soil in Geneva, where at least he reached the second round..

Apart from that, the only success he has had is winning the odd match on the Challenger tour or in qualifying competitions.

A win of any sort in Gstaad would be a valuable boost to very brittle confidence.

Ymer More Prominent on the Challenger Tour

Elias is the older and less successful of the two Ymer brothers. Although the pair did win the Stockholm Open doubles title together six years ago.

He has won six times on the Challenger tour, three of those victories coming on clay, but it has been nearly three years since his last title.

On the senior tour this year, his best result came in Barcelona, where he came through the qualifying competition to make the second round.

He also made the second round on home soil in Bastad last week, before he was beaten by Diego Schwartzman.

In the qualifying competition in  Gstaad he beat first Jerome Kym of Switzerland, and then Corentin Moutet of France, a match that saw him come from behind to win it in a third set tie-break which contained 24 points.

Paire v Ymer Prediction and Tip

In normal circumstances, Paire would start the clear favourite to win this encounter, but his form is so poor that it makes every match a lottery for him. However,  victory, no matter how scrappy, might do wonders for his confidence.

Tip: Paire to win: 12/13 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
