Casper Ruud v Jiri Lehecka Head to Head

This will be their first meeting.

Ruud’s Shocking Bastad Defeat

Casper Ruud was the top seed and defending champion in Bastad last week but he suffered a shocking loss to Francisco Cerundolo in the 2nd round. The Norwegian is a superb clay player yet he’s had some very bad outings on clay this year which is unusual for him.

Last year he largely dominated these smaller events on clay winning Bastad, Gstaad and Kitzbuhel in three consecutive weeks. Bastad was not a successful title defence for him but perhaps Gstaad will. The opponent is a solid one, one that will test him enough but slightly less than Cerundolo.

The Argentine finished off the impeccable Bastad week with a trophy so Ruud might have been unlucky to run into him early. Nonetheless, he will have to stay alert because Gstaad plays into the strengths of Lehecka.

32-14 is the score for Ruud this year which is impressive and also the reason why he’s number 5 in the world. On clay, he’s 21-7 with the Roland Garros final so he’s still a premier clay player. I think he’ll be a bit better here than last year as he was clearly rusty in Bastad.

Lehecka Cruises in Round One

Jiri Lehecka returned to winning ways on the ATP Tour in the first round of Gstaad beating a very solid Martin Etcheverry in straight sets. The Czech player has been slowly improving on the Tour and he’s solidifying himself inside the top 100.

There is enough talent to go even further but that will depend on several factors. Gstaad should be a very strong event for him naturally because the conditions play so well for him. High altitude makes the serve a very potent weapon and it’s still the best part of his game along with the forehand.

That combo destroyed his opponent in round one and he’ll bring that heat to Ruud as well. Considering the Norwegian is a bit rusty it could be a tricky thing to overcome.

Either way, Lehecka will try his best and I could see him keeping this closer than a lot of people might expect. Keep reading to find out what might happen.

Ruud v Lehecka Prediction and Tip

So this will be a close match, I truly believe that and it’s because of the conditions. Lehecka’s serve should keep him in most games and if he brings somewhat of a solid level this might be very close.

I don’t think Lehecka can win because I expect a more solid Ruud after the wake-up call from last week so I think he’ll get it done.

Tip: Ruud to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
