Anett Kontaveit v Anastasia Potapova Head to Head

Kontaveit won their only meeting in Moscow in 2018.

Kontaveit Continues to Dazzle

World no. 2 Anett Kontaveit continued to demonstrate solid form as the Estonian advanced to the semifinals in Hamburg after her quarterfinal opponent Andrea Petkovic retired in the second set.

Kontaveit dropped just two points on her serve and 8 points while returning to bagel the German in the first set. She continued to dominate in the second, taking a 2-0 lead, before Petkovic retired from the contest.

A winner in St. Petersburg this year and runner-up in Qatar, Kontaveit is now a win away from a third final of 2022. Last year, the six-time WTA champion had made it to seven finals, winning four of them.

Having come into the tournament not in best of forms, the 26-year-old put the disappointments of the last three tournaments behind her as she advanced to the final four without dropping a set this week. Kontaveit’s toughest mach was her first round win over Romania’s Irina Bara, who took her to the tiebreak in the second set. Kontaveit won that match 6-3, 7-6 (7-3).

She got better in the second round, overpowering Sweden’s Rebecca Peterson 6-3, 6-2. She faces a tough opponent in the semifinal, but having got into a good rhythm, the Estonian will fancy her chances against the Russian.

Potapova Upsets Krejcikova

World no. 63 Anastasia Potapova reached a third semifinal of the season after she upset the third seed Barbora Krejcikova in the quarterfinal on Thursday.

The Russian, who won her maiden WTA title in Istanbul in April, was also a semifinalist in Lausanne last week.

While Krejcikova has failed to deliver results in singles recently, she was starting to look dangerous in this tournament after scoring two convincing wins in the opening rounds. But the Czech couldn’t match up to the in-form Potapova in the quarterfinal.

Both players began the match with a break of serve, but Potapova ran way with the set following the early stutter. Krejcikova couldn’t hold serve even once in the opening set as the Russian converted 4 of 6 break points.

Krejcikova showed some fight in the second set, coming back from a break down twice but a third break in the eighth game sealed the match for Potapova as she marched into a second consecutive semifinal.

This was the second seeded player that Potapova defeated this week, following her straight sets win over sixth seed Varvara Gracheva in the first round. She was even more ruthless against her second round opponent María Carlé, beating the Argentinian qualifier 6-1, 6-4.

Kontaveit v Potapova Prediction and Tip

Given Potapova’s recent form, Kontaveit will be way of the unseeded Russian. But eventually the World no. 2 should find a way to reach a third final.

Tip: Kontaveit to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
