Since making the third round at Indian Wells earlier this year, Paolini has stumbled at early hurdles at each of her next seven WTA tournaments.
It’s here in Palermo has she finally managed to get a semblance of her own form back, at least as far as her results are concerned. After a crushing first round win over Karolina Anna Schmiedlova, Paoloni was aided by a second round walkover from the 36th-ranked Shuai Zhang.
And in the quarterfinals, Paolini overcame Nuriz Parrizas-DIaz in a bitterly-fought encounter that often swung in the favour of both players.
In the end, Paolini prevailed 6-7 (5), 7-5, 6-2 to clinch a place in the semifinal – her first since she did that at a few of the WTA125 events last season.

Bronzetti Overcomes Heavy Odds in Quarterfinal
Bronzetti had entered her quarterfinal match against the Frenchwoman Caroline Garcia as a major underdog, with bookmakers offering up to 7/3 for her shock win.
Which is why when she fell a set behind and then had to save a couple of break-points in the fifth game of the second set, the match looked to be going right to the script.
Except it did not.
Bronzetti showed remarkable resolve in first warding off Garcia on her own serve and the broke her opponent as she served to stay in the set at 5-6.
And in the third, Bronzetti broke Garcia twice and while she was broken back once, the writing was on the wall for the now-struggling fancied player.
In an encounter lasting nearly three hours, Bronzetti won 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 to make it to the last four.

While Bronzetti has done well so far, she has played three matches in four days and has had a couple of three-setters. Fatigue could be a factor here and we could see Paolini take this in straight sets.
