Carlos Alcaraz v Lorenzo Musetti Head to Head

This is going to be a first tour-level meeting between the two.

Alcaraz won their only Challenger level meeting in 2020.

Alcaraz Overcomes Molcan

World no. 6 Carlos Alcaraz soared into a fifth final in 2022 with a straight sets win over Alex Molcan on Saturday.

The 19-year-old has been in stupendous form this season and Saturday’s win improved his season record to 39-5.

The top seed found the going tough in the first set with Molcan putting up a tough fight and coming back from a break down twice. The Slovak also saved two set points in the 10th game to stay in the set, which eventually needed a tiebreak to separate the two.

Alcaraz raced to a 6-0 lead in the tiebreak, before Molcan attempted a comeback, winning two points in a row, but the Spaniard had built too big a lead for the Slovak to overhaul and thus took a one-set-to-love lead.

With the first set in the bag, there was no stopping Alcaraz in the second as he took the set in no time to topple Molcan 7-6 (7-2), 6-1. This was Alcaraz’s third straight straight sets win.

He was made to work hard in the opening round by Germany’s Nicola Kuhn. But ever since beating Kuhn 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3), Alcaraz has looked comfortable in the tournament. He defeated Filip Krajinović 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 in the second round and then flew past Karen Khachanov in the quarterfinal, beating the Russin 6-0, 6-2.

A five-time champion on the tour, Alcaraz has never lost an ATP final. This year, he defeated Diego Schwartzman in Rio, Casper Ruud in Miami, Pablo Carreno Busta in Barcelona and Alexander Zverev in Madrid for his four titles.

He could only reach the quarterfinals in Roland Garros and the fourth round at Wimbledon since winning the Spanish double, but has returned to another final. Can he win his fifth title of the season?

Musetti Ends Cerundolo’s Streak

World no. 62 Lorenzo Musetti dashed Francisco Cerundolo’s dream of winning back-to-back titles, after he eliminated the Argentine in the semifinal in Hamburg on Saturday.

The 20-year-old Italian needed an hour and 55 minutes to beat last week’s Bastad Open champion 6-3, 7-6 (7-3) and put an end to his eight-match unbeaten run.

Musetti saved 5 of 8 break points and converted 4 of 5 to register a straight sets win in a third consecutive match. Like Alcaraz, he too had a tough start in the competition, having to save two match points in the second set before his come-from-behind win over Dusan Lajovic.

He got stronger as the tournament progressed, dispatching Emil Ruusuvuori and Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in straight sets in the second round and the quarterfinals respectively to move into the final four.

Thanks to Saturday’s win, Musetti marched into a maiden ATP final. He is 17-16 for the season, can he claim his maiden title on Sunday.

Alcaraz v Musetti Prediction and Tip

With a 5-0 record in finals and 4-0 this year, Alcaraz will be the favourite in this contest. Expect the Spaniard to keep his perfect record in finals intact.
