Joao Sousa v Marton Fucsovics Head to Head

They played twice before and Fucsovics won both matches.

Sousa’s Abysmal Stretch

Joao Sousa last won a match on May 24th when he won in the opening round of Roland Garros. Since then, the Portuguese player did not win a single match losing 7 in a row. Since returning to clay it’s been rather poor as well as he lost both of his matches.

He did not even win a set in either of those and the last time he won an set was at Wimbledon. This is not completely shocking for Sousa as he’s been playing like this for a good part of the last couple of seasons. Most of the time he’s quite poor and then, out of nowhere, he plays a strong event like Geneva.

He reached the final then almost beating Casper Ruud in the final but that was his last good event. He’s 20-24 on the year and that looks better than it really is because of a couple of strong events.

Theoretically, he should have a good time in Kitzbuhel due to his playstyle but the way he’s playing, I have my reservations.

The Return of Fucsovics

Marton Fucsovics is not having a very good year at all. The Hungarian player is realistically a top 30 talent but he’s struggled with injuries this year and generally played rather poor.

15-17 is the score for him and he’s almost out of the top 100 thanks to the Wimbledon points stripping thing which cost him 360 points overall. He’s in need of wins both to regain his ranking but also to find his confidence.

The last time he won a match was in Stuttgart on grass when he beat Hubert Hurkacz. When he did play he looked okay. Nothing spectacular but that’s how he plays but it’s obvious his health is bothering him quite a bit. Very often he’ll look in discomfort on the court and it’s probably some lingering issues.

A lengthy absence now after Wimbledon was hopefully enough to regain his health and he is primed for a strong showing here. The opponent is perfect to get off to a good start so it’s all up to him.

Sousa v Fucsovics Prediction and Tip

This is a nightmare matchup to predict because both players are struggling and we don’t know how healthy Fucsovics really is. He’s beaten the Portuguese player twice in the past and he is the better player but he’ll need to prove it.

I’ll roll the dice and back him to do it because Sousa has been so poor. Hopefully, he won’t have one of his crazy events where he smashes everybody.

Tip: Fucsovics to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
