Last year she had reached the semifinals at the Australian Open and the quarterfinals at Wimbledon, breaking into the top 20 in the world.
But an injury kept Karolina Muchova out of action for the most part of 2022, as a result of which she has not only seen a decline in the rankings but also struggled to find form.
Currently ranked no. 164 in the world, Muchocva is on a three-match losing streak. She had last won in the second round of the French Open against the fourth seed Maria Sakkari. She pulled out of her third round match against Amanda Anisimova in the third set after she had sustained an ankle injury during the contest.
Muchova returned for the grass season only to suffer first round losses in Berlin and at the Wimbledon.
A winner of the Korea Open title in 2019, the Czech had made it to the final of the Prague Open in her only appearance in 2019. But she couldn’t win the title after going down to Jil Teichmann. Coming into the tournament with a 5-5 season record, Muchova will be desperate to regain the form that took her to great heights in 2021.

Havlickova Won the Junior Double at Roland Garros
Takin on Muchova is World no. 763 Lucie Havlickova.
The 17-year-old Czech made waves at Roland Garros this year, winning the junior singles title by beating Argentina’s Solana Sierra in straight sets. She also won the junior doubles title with fellow Czech player Sára Bejlek at the French Open.
Apart from the French Open junior double, she has only featured at the ITF level but has not made the quarterfinals in any of the tournaments that she has featured in.
Last year, Havlickova made her debut in the tournament, falling to Anastasia Gasanova in the first round.
This will be just her second WTA match on the tour.
