Mihaela Buzarnescu v Nao Hibino Head to Head

Hibino won their only matchup in Hiroshima in 2019.

Buzarnescu Looking for First Hard Court Win of the Season

2018 finalist Mihaela Buzarnescu returns to Prague to take part in the WTA 250 tournament for the third time. The tournament was a clay court event four years ago when she won four matches to reach the title clash but finished runner-up despite taking the first set against Petra Kvitova in the final.

Buzarnescu fell in the opening round in her next appearance in 2019. The tournament moved to hard courts last year and this will be the first time the the Romanian will be competing on the hard courts of Prague.

She hasn’t been in best of forms this year and this will be just the second time she will be playing on hard court in 2022. She lost her only match on the surface to Ysaline Bonaventure in the first qualifying round at the Australian Open.

She is 12-8 on clay and 3-2 on grass from all her matches this year. Her best was a run to the quarterfinals of the WTA 125 in Bastad earlier this month.

It will be interesting to see how well she transitions to hard court. Remember she has reached three WTA finals in her career, all in 2018, with her only title coming on hard court at the Silicon Valley Classic.

Hibino Enters Main Draw as Lucky Loser

Facing Buzarnescu is lucky loser Nao Hibino, who lost in the second qualifying round to Russia’s Oksana Selekhmeteva on Sunday.

Having won her opening round match against Slovakia’s Rebecca Sramkova, the Japanese player lost 2-6, 6-2, 3-6 to the Russian, but found her way to the main draw as a lucky loser.

Hibino had qualified for the German Open last week, before going down in the opening round to Romania’s Alexandra Cadanțu-Ignatik in three sets.

Unlike Buzarnescu, Hibino has played a fair amount of matches on hard courts this year and she is 13-10 on the surface, across levels.

A two-time WTA winner from five finals, Hibino reached a 13th ITF final at Chiang Rai this year, but couldn’t win a ninth title. The 27-year-old has played most of her tennis on hard courts and will fancy her chance in the first round against Buzarnescu.

Buzarnescu v Hibino Prediction and Tip

Given that Hibino has played a lot more than the Romanian on hard courts this year and also that Buzarnescu is 0-1 on the surface this year, things won’t be easy for the latter. But Buzarnescu is the higher-ranked player and could edge out the lucky loser.

Tip: Buzarnescu to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
