Jurij Rodionov has been slowly improving over the year and he’s now fairly close to making his top 100 debut. There is enough talent there but the consistency was never present in the percentage that was needed. Until this year, as he’s 28-18 this year.
Rodionov has a game that is centred around his serve and it’s a powerful one. That makes Kitzbuhel a perfect place for him because the serves will be fast at the high altitude. He’s also playing fairly aggressive and that should work for him too.
He already won a challenger event in Austria this season so he will try to bring that level to the main Tour. The opponent is a measured one as Casanova can certainly be beaten.
He will have the crowd behind his back and that should be enough in this one.

Casanova Through the Qualies
Hernan Casanova has played tennis for a while now but he’s never gotten his big break. He’s had some decent results on challenger events and mostly on clay because that’s where he plays his most tennis but it never clicked for him. A race chance to play on the main Tour comes here in Kitzbuhel after some strong showings in the qualifiers.
The Argentine won two matches to get into the main draw and there were wins Manuel Guinard and Daniel Dutra da Silva. Both of those wins are solid but nothing special.
It’s clear that Casanova can play well on clay as he has a 414-231 record on the surface but this will be a big beast to tame. He’s 20-14 on the surface this year and that is pretty solid.

So this is a fairly interesting matchup. I don’t think Rodionov will cruise as easily as the odds think he will but I do think he will win.
The serve will be a huge factor and he’s been pretty strong back home this year. I think that will be enough to secure a win over Casanova.
