2018 Umag Winner Cecchinato

Only three years ago, Cecchinato was ranked as high as number 16 in the world, but his drop down the rankings since then has been sudden.

At his peak, he was a regular contender for clay court titles, and has three ATP tournament victories to his name. They included winning this very event back in 2018 when he beat the Argentine Guido Pella in the final.

His last appearance in a final was in Emilio Romagna last May, but on the senior tour, he has only won two singles matches all year, the last being a first round victory in the French Open over the Spaniard Pablo Andujar.

In the first round of qualifying he beat a local Croat player, then had a strole of fortune when compatriot Andreas Seppi pulled out with an injury.
