James Duckworth played only 19 matches this year as the Australian largely dealt with several injuries that left him unable to play. He’s only recently returned to playing consistent tennis and it’s been a bit of a struggle.
It’s not been completely terrible though as he had strung together a couple of solid wins on grass and away from the surface. The Australian should certainly find some form on the North American hard courts because they fit his playstyle.
Last year was a very good year for him with a 36-24 record and he’ll hope to have a strong finish to the season so he doesn’t drop too much in the rnakings. It’s crucial for him to finish among the top 100 ahead of the Australian summer next week.
He got a good draw in Atlanta so he should use that to his advantage.

Koepfer Finally With Some Wins
Dominik Koepfer missed a large part of this season due to injuries and the German is now back to the courts where he practically grew up. Dominik went to college in the US so he knows how to play on North American hard courts.
Koepfer only played 14 matches so far this year and he’s 6-8. It’s not been very good but that’s to be expected after such a long absence. Koepfer is a lefty who has the typical game. He has a deadly kick serve with his lefty and a strong forehand that can do a lot of damage.
The long absence saw him fall out of the top 100 by a big margin so he needs to start winning matches and getting those points back. A solid chance comes in Atlanta as he already picked up two wins in the qualifiers.
He played solid players but he did not play too great. It’s going to be tough for him in this one but he can certainly win it.
Duckworth v Koepfer Prediction and Tip
Neither played much this year and neither is in great form. I do think Duckworth is a bit better at the moment despite, for me at least, Koepfer having more talent overall.
I think the Aussie will win this close match because he played more and looks more confident in his ability. I do expect a three-setter and Koepfer winning would not shock me.
