Ivashka Back in North America

Ilya Ivashka won his maiden trophy in Winston-Salem and it’s been a culmination of good play for weeks by Ivashak. The Belarussian does really well on hard courts and especially in America, he’s capable of producing a strong effort.

This year hasn’t been the best for him but he also did not play for a large part of it. He only managed 26 matches so far with a 12-14 record and that’s certainly far below his 43-20 record last season.

Ivashka loves to play aggressive tennis and he can do that in North American as the courts generally reward that playstyle. He’s capable of playing very strong both on the forehand and backhand and generally has a solid level of consistency in his game.

He won’t beat the best but he’ll beat most players that are not ranked inside in the top 50 and quite a few of those that are. I expect a gradual rise for him in the next few weeks.

Impressive Rise From Halys

Quentin Halys is having the type of season Ivashka had last year as the French player had a tremendous rise so far. He’s 43-18 on the year with standout performances primarily indoors. The reason is simple. His best asset is his serve which can be nearly unplayable on his day.

Generally, he’ll win matches when he serves well but rarely when he doesn’t. He is improving in his consistency but it’s far from where it needs to be if he wants to be a regular top 50 player.

That’s his goal and a ranking of 74 currently gives him a chance to get that by the end of the year. He’ll need some good wins in North America and he should be able to get them. Quite a few of these events will reward his good serving with the US Open especially.

He only played 7 matches on hard courts this year with a 4-3 record on it so there is certainly room to improve.

Ivashka v Halys Prediction and Tip

Both of these players can win this match but it will largely depend on how Halys serves. If he serves well Ivashka will have trouble.

If he doesn’t the Belarussian should be able to get it. I’ll back Ivashka simply because he’s the more complete player overall and I think that will matter.

Tip: Ivashka to win in three sets: 3/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
