Aslan Karatsev v Dusan Lajovic Head to Head
They had faced off long ago in a qualifier in Moscow where Lajovic had won in three sets. That was more than 10 years ago.

Since winning the Sydney International title in January and making it to the third round of the Australian Open post that, Karatsev has struggled to get going. Till he reached Bastad that is.
Because it was there that Karatsev finally won a couple of rounds in a row to reach the quarterfinals – the first time he had done that since his Australian Open exploits.
And Karatsev followed that up with wins over Nikoloz Basilashvili and Daniel Elahi Galan in Hamburg to make it to the last eight stage there too. It was the heavy favourite Francisco Cerundolo who got the better of him in that encounter but not before Karatsev had taken a set off his opponent.

Lajovic Quells Sachko Challenge
Lajovic should not have had too many issues when he faced the 265th-ranked Vitaliy Sachko in his opener here but lack of form in recent times seemed to have caused a bit of a slow start for the Serb.
In the end, in a match lasting nearly two hours, Lajovic came through 6-4, 7-6 (5) to seal his spot besides Karatsev in the second round.
It was a match of fine margins which saw Lajovic getting broken once and retaliating with two breaks of his own – all of which happened in the first set.
The second set was a display of some clinical tennis with neither player letting up till the set reached the tie-breaker. There, Lajovic missed out on a set-point on his own serve but managed to win it off his opponent’s.
