Viktorija Golubic is not having a very good year so far. The Swiss player had an excellent year in 2021 but so far she’s been largely unable to replicate the same level.
She is only 15-17 on the year and that is way off from her 46-21 record last year. That sort of tennis stabilised her as a top 100 player but today she is ranked outside of it with a chance to drop even further. She needs some wins and she needs those fins to start feeling good about her game.
So much of Golubic’s game is tied to her confidence on the court and lately, she’s been unable to bring it to the level she needs to. The round one win over Arianne Hartono showed just that. It was a good win but much harder than she would have liked.
That sort of shaky level puts her in danger of losing to Mladenovic who looked really good in her round one match against Bondar.

A Rare Win for Mladenovic
While Golubic has been struggling this year, Mladenovic has been particularly dreadful. It’s nothing strange, the French player has had poor stretches in the past and both of her previous two seasons finished with more losses than wins.
This year though, it’s rather striking with an 8-17 record overall. That’s not good but her performance in round one was rather good. It’s a rare win that might perhaps unlock something in her.
Bondar is a tricky player to beat, especially on clay and winning that match in three sets should give her a solid base to build upon. Her biggest issue always was and still is consistency.
She simply can’t produce a complete effort in the singles playing too much up and down all the time. That’s why she’s out of the top 100 for a while now without many wins on the year.
Golubic v Mladenovic Prediction and Tip
This type of matchup is a nightmare to predict. Both are inconsistent and both aren’t having a good year. Golubic is better in both of those things so far.
While the talent might be on Mladenovic’s side, she’s been struggling with her singles performances for close to three years now. I’d rather put my eggs into Golubic’s basket in this one.
