Iga Swiatek v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

It’s 1-0 to Swiatek; they last met in the 2019 Cincinnati Open where the Pole won in straight sets.

Business as Usual for Swiatek

World No. 1 Iga Swiatek is having a fabulous year. She bagged five titles (all in WTA 500 or above tier), one Grand Slam, and went on a 37-match win streak to establish a new longest-streak record in the 21st century.

Her tally is at a phenomenal 48-4 and has a lead of over 3,900 ranking points between her and the second-ranked Anett Kontaveit.

Swiatek’s last loss came in Wimbledon, where she lost to Alize Cornet in the third round. However, now that she is back on clay (and later the hard courts), Iga is once again in her element.

Her quick wins here in Warsaw prove this much as she beat Magdalena Frech (6-1, 6-2) and Gabriela Lee (6-3, 6-2).

Garcia, on a Roll

Caroline Garcia, current World No. 45, is now 24-14 and while it is nowhere as impressive as Swiatek’s, it’s still a positive result. The 28-year-old has already delivered her best season on record in the last four years.

Her journey so far in the tournament has seen victories over Misaki Doi and Elisabetta Cocciaretto – all in straight sets. This also marks Garcia’s third consecutive quarterfinal on the tour – with the other coming just in the last few weeks in Lausanne and Palermo.

In fact, Caroline has been somewhat resurgent of late – since winning the WTA Bad Homburg, she has gone up 8-3 whilst playing with some beautiful consistency.

As a former top 10 player and the reigning French Open doubles champion, Garcia has an impeccable pedigree and experience. All in all, she should be confident of her chances against Swiatek.

Swiatek v Garcia Prediction and Tip

Swiatek is the odds-on favourite and has the upper hand in this match. Garcia, however, is playing fine tennis and has momentum. A victory may be too tall of an order for now, but she is well-equipped to put on a fight and push Iga out of her comfort zone.

Expect a good game.
