David Goffin v Jack Sock Head to Head

Goffin leads this H2H 3-0 with the most recent match in Basel in 2017 being 7-6(3) 6-3 for the Belgian.

Goffin Back From Holiday

David Goffin last played at Wimbledon and the Belgian took a holiday after that to rest up and recover following a very brutal season so far. Goffin missed a lot of time last year due to a knee injury and he had to play a lot of tennis this year to make for it.

He’s been pretty good with a 26-17 record and a trophy to his name as well. Wimbledon was a solid experience for him as well. A quarterfinal and loss to Norrie but a very promising continuation of solid play for the Belgian.

He’s very close to breaking back into the top 50 where he belongs and he’ll have that chance during the North American hard court season. Washington is known to him as he played three times here reaching a quarterfinal a couple of years ago.

His serve and groundstrokes can do wonders on the faster courts of North America but he will need to be careful. He can’t allow many break points to the opponent because he’ll pay a price for it.

Sock’s Improved Play

Jack Sock has been playing the best tennis he’s played in a while this year. The American is not close to his peak level but he’ll probably never get back to it anyway. He knows that, and fans know it too, so it’s just about enjoying the journey as a true fan of the sport.

His record this year is 29-14 and most of those wins came at the challenger level with a couple of those coming on the ATP level as well. He’s close to returning to the top 100 and if he produces a couple of more solid matches he should be able to get it easily.

Recent form has been decent enough but last week in Atlanta he ran into Tommy Paul early in the event (round one) and the younger American was simply too good for Sock to overcome him. He did not get a much better draw here either so it will be tough.

His best result in Washington was in 2017 when he reached the semifinal and he’s far from that level. Still, Goffin might give him some chances, if he can use them, perhaps he can do something.

Goffin v Sock Prediction and Tip

So this is an interesting matchup but probably won’t be an interesting match. The biggest thing for Goffin will be how rusty he is. If he can find his rhythm quickly he’ll cruise in this matchup. If he takes a long time and gives Sock a chance to play himself into a zone, he might be in trouble.

I do expect Goffin to be well prepared and get the job done by taking it nice and early. Take the Belgian.

Tip: Goffin to win in straight sets: 10/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
