Jessica Pegula v Hailey Baptiste Head to Head
It’s 1-0 to Pegula, although that match wasn’t seen to fruition. Baptiste retired in the 2021 WTA Berlin after drawing 6-6 in the first set with injury.

2022 has been a demanding year for the 20-year-old American Hailey Baptiste. She has made some progress but still has ways to go; she reached her career-best ranking at the #1119 spot before going down to #148.
The youngster is coming to Washington, where she was born, with a tally of 18-13 and a long break from the tour. Her last tournament was the French Open, where she retired against Anhelina Kalinina in the first set after clearing the qualifiers.
Most of Baptiste’s season has gone by in early losses/qualifying wins. Among her prominent results are round-two stints in Guadalajara and the Australian Open.
With no significant trophies or tournaments to her name – barring a doubles title in ITF Orlando – her chances of making it deep into the Citi Open are slim.

Pegula in her Element
World No. 7 and top seed Jessica Pegula is one of the favourites to win the tournament.
Hers has been a stellar year with 25-13 and penultimate-round appearances in the Australian Open, Miami Open, and the French Open. Jessica was also a runner-up in the Madrid Open – and has certainly done well to prove her mettle time and again.
Over the season, Pegula has beaten a handful of well-known players like Bianca Andreescu, Coco Gauff, Maria Sakkari, Elena Rybakina, Paula Badosa, and Anhelina Kalinina.
Like most, the 28-year-old took some time off the tour after Wimbledon to relax and prepare for the US swing.
