Carlos Alcaraz v Jannik Sinner Head to Head

It’s 1-1 from their two tour level meetings. Alcaraz won in Paris last year and Sinner won in the Round of 16 at Wimbledon this year.

They have also met once at the Challenger level, which remains their only previous meeting on clay. Alcaraz won that match in Alicante in 2019 in three sets.

Alcaraz Stretched by Zeppieri

After breezing past the first two opponents, World No. 5 Carlos Alcaraz was tested in the semifinal by Italy’s Giulio Zeppieri on Saturday. The Spaniard however survived the three-set contest to reach a sixth ATP final in 2022.

The win also extended Alcaraz’s unblemished Umag record to 8-0.

After edging the first set, the defending champion rolled his ankle in the second set, which was eventually decided by a solitary break that fell to the Italian.

The Spaniard, who took a medical timeout after twisting the ankle, overcame the pain and went up 3-0 in the third following a double break. But Zeppieri refused to surrender, as he won the next three to draw level. However, the Italian began cramping from that point on and eventually Alcaraz finished off the match 7-5, 4-6, 6-3.

For the second straight week Alcaraz is in the final of an ATP event. Last week, his perfect finals record came to an end after he finished runner-up to Lorenzo Musetti in Hamburg.

Alcaraz had won all five of his finals before last week, with four titles coming this year. The 19-year-old, who is 42-6 in 2022 clinched the titles in Rio, Miami, Barcelona and Madrid. Can he win a fifth title in 2022 on Sunday?

Sinner Eases Past Agamenone

He won four titles from five finals last year, but it took seven months for Jannik Sinner to reach his first final of 2022.

Having lost in six quarterfinals this season, the 20-year-old finally made it to the final four by defeating Roberto Carballés Baena in Umag on Friday and then reached the title clash with a straight sets drubbing of fellow Italian Franco Agamenone on Saturday.

The World No. 10 was dominant from the start, racing to a 5-0 lead before claiming the first set 6-1. He continued to dictate terms in the second, building a 5-2 lead with a double break, before being broken for the first time in the match by Agamenone. Sinner broke back immediately in the next game for a 6-1, 6-3 victory.

The 20-year-old has not dropped a set this week, beginning the tournament with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Jaume Munar in the second round.

This is the first time that Sinner will be competing in a clay court final. He has won all of his five titles on hard and was also a finalist in Miami last year. But he isn’t a bad clay player. Sinner is 14-4 on the surface this year and 34-17 overall. He will be looking to surprise the red-hot Alcaraz on Sunday to land his first title on the surface.

Alcaraz v Sinner Prediction and Tip

While Sinner braces for a first clay court final, Alcaraz is looking to claim his fifth title on the surface, where he is 4-1 in finals. The 19-year-old is 27-3 on clay this season and 39-10 overall. Without a doubt he is the favourite to win the final and it won’t be a surprise if he does that in straight sets.

Tip: Alcaraz to win in straight sets: 13/10 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
