Mayar Sherif v Donna Vekic Head to Head

This will be their first meeting on the WTA Tour.

Vekic, Coming off a Decent Grass Swing

The last couple of seasons has been quite rocky for the 26-year-old Croat Donna Vekic. A knee surgery early last year has pretty much defined her form on the tour – knocking her out of the top 100 and thus restarting her long quest to glory.

The Courmayeur Open title last October did some good for her, but the fact remains that Vekic, now ranked World No. 85, has still got ways to go.

It is not a matter of skill but of fitness and confidence; over the course of her career, Donna has beaten several well-known players like Victoria Azarenka, Garbine Muguruza, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Kvitova, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, and more.

Vekic is 14-11 in 2022, with her highlights being the quarterfinal run in Birmingham and round-two stint in Eastbourne – both as a qualifier.

A Defining Season for Sherif

Mayar Sherif is the current World No. 46 – just two places shy of her career-best ranking. Coincidentally, her season too is 14-11.

The Egyptian is set to feature in her first professional match since the French Open, where she retired in round two against Tamara Zidansek. Most of her matches on the WTA Tour have ended in early-round losses; on the Challenger circuit, however, Sherif has done well with two titles from Marbella and Karlsruhe.

Of course, both those titles came on clay courts – which seems to be Mayar’s speciality. She did not amaze in the hard-court swing, implying that she may be out of her element in the coming weeks.

Sherif v Vekic Prediction and Tip

With nine WTA finals, 13 ITF ones, and a former World No. 19 ranking to her name, Vekic is certainly a formidable opponent. This is far more than Sherif has – not to mention the lack of top-tier wins or experience.

This match is Donna’s to lose; she may be tested but she should ultimately get through.

Tip: Vekic to Win, Over 20.5 Games: 11/8 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
