John Millman’s interest in the Atlanta Open came to a screeching halt in the second round, losing in a tight match to the much-fancied Brandon Nakashima. The Aussie dropped serve just once in the match, but it proved costly as Nakashima won 6-4 7-6.
A return to hard courts is a welcome relief for Millman who has notched half of his 14 wins on the surface so far this year. He is set to make just his second main draw appearance in Los Cabos and will look to do better than his three-set defeat to Prajnesh Gunneswaran last time out.
Millman’s best results this year came on American soil, where he reached the semifinals of the Delray Beach Open beating the likes of Maxime Cressy, Dimitrov, and Marcos Giron

Hernandez Earns Wild Card Entry
Alex Hernandez is one of two Mexican wild cards at the tournament. Hernandez’s only taste of tour-level competition came earlier this year when he also got a wild card at his home tournament in Acapulco. But the 23-year-old was outclassed by Pablo Andujar 6-0 6-1.
He will certainly be hoping for a much-improved display, although the odds are clearly stacked against him when he comes up against the workhorse that is Millman.
Hernandez is 23, but plies his trade in the ITF circuit and occasionally on the ATP Challenger Tour. He has never been ranked higher than 520 in the world rankings, which largely explains why he has not appeared frequently in the ATP’s main tour or the second tier.
He has a paltry two wins on the Challengers in almost four seasons. And although stranger things have happened before, this looks like a mountain to climb for Hernandez.
