Victoria Azarenka v Tereza Martincova Head to Head

Victoria Azarenka will be pleased with her start in the Citi Open 2022 as she beat Dayana Yastremska 6-4, 6-0. The 33-year-old quickly capitalised on Yastremska’s lousy day at work as she won 77% of her first-service points (compared to her opponent’s 47).
Now ranked World No. 20, Azarenka has had a pretty bleak season. Although she is 15-8 now, she hasn’t been that active of late, and most of those wins came on hard courts.
Of course, this (and her overall experience) bodes well for her chances in North America. Three of her last four finals, including the Indian Wells Open last season, have come here.
Azarenka’s last tournament was the French Open, where she lost to Jil Teichmann in the third round. The 32-year-old had reached the mid-rounds in Rome, Madrid, and Miami too – but ended up losing to a litany of youngsters like Linda Fruhvirtova, Amanda Anisimova, and Iga Swiatek.
On the back of a long hiatus, Victoria will hope to find her groove in Washington this week – but it is likely to be challenging and tricky.

Martincova Survives Wang
Tereza Martincova (#73), age 27, defeated Xinyu Wang in the first round with 0-6, 6-4, 6-4.
With this, the Czech has improved her tally to 12-17 and finally snapped her four-match losing streak spread across Birmingham, Eastbourne, Wimbledon, and Prague.
Tereza was out of form as she lost to the likes of Camila Giorgi, Katie Boulter, and Chloe Paquet. Her season has gone by in early losses, although she did play well on the hard courts in St. Petersburg and Doha (round three appearances).
Additionally, Martincova was a doubles runner-up in Melbourne and Adelaide. All these results have indeed built her confidence, and she can do wonders with a bit of momentum.
Azarenka v Martincova Prediction and Tip
This has all the markings of being a demanding match for both players. They are fierce, competitive, and will not back down easily. Azarenka is the favourite – at least on paper – but that may change quickly if Martincova is having a particularly good day.
