Donna Vekic v Xiyu Wang Head to Head

Donna Vekic, age 26, ranked World No. 86, is now 15-11 this season following a win over Mayar Sherif in the first round with 6-4, 6-1.
The last couple of seasons has been quite rocky for the 26-year-old Croat. A knee surgery early last year has pretty much defined her form on the tour – knocking her out of the top 100 and thus restarting her long quest to glory.
The Courmayeur Open title last October did some good for her, but the fact remains that Vekic has still got ways to go.
It is not a matter of skill but fitness and confidence; over the course of her career, Donna has beaten several well-known players like Victoria Azarenka, Garbine Muguruza, Aryna Sabalenka, Petra Kvitova, Ons Jabeur, Maria Sakkari, and more.
Her highlights of 2022 are the quarterfinal run in Birmingham and a round-two stint in Eastbourne – both as a qualifier.

Wang Upsets Maria
21-year-old Chinese Xiyu Wang began the tournament as a qualifier but lost to Louisa Chirico in the final qualifying round. However, the lucky loser rule got her through to the main draw, where she booked a clash with Tatjana Maria.
The youngster defeated the veteran German 6-2, 7-5 to face Vekic.
With that, Wang – current World No. 95 – has now improved her score to 31-17 in 2022, with most of those wins coming in the Challenger/ITF tournaments.
Xiyu did well to reach the final in the Valencia Challenger and ITF Palm Harbour, Charlottesville, and Charleston. On the WTA side, she hasn’t been this consistent, although she was a quarterfinalist in Budapest.
Vekic v Wang Prediction and Tip
Vekic is the favourite and should do well to win this one. She looks more fit by the day, and given her superior pedigree, she should be able to surpass Wang and reach the elite eight. However, the match may be a long, demanding one.
